“Considering Symmetry” at Galleri Christinegaard
- Galleri Christinegaard 3 Formanns vei Bergen, Vestland, 5037 Norway (map)
I have always liked the feeling of using something that most people would have thrown away. This likely stems from a period in my teenage years when I realized I was better at repairing than at sewing garments from new fabrics. When I used fine materials it often went awry, while my worn-out jeans could only improve. I suspect that my skepticism towards symmetry began around the same time: I have never liked it. The clothes I sewed were mostly asymmetrical, something I carried over into my art without questioning it. As an adult, I’ve wondered if it turned out that way simply because things were constantly askew— a strategic choice based more on necessity than anything else. It is in light of this that I am now exploring symmetry.
Thanks to Svein Presttun for installation assistance, and to Marianne Ryan for a wonderful opening speech.
